Letham City Boys / Under 18's - Season 1963/64
Saturday 7th September 1963

A meeting will be held at the County Offices, York Place, Perth on the evening of Tuesday 17th September 1963 to consider the formation of a " Perthshire Youth Service Youth League "

Such a league made up of teams where players are under 18 years of age at the beginning of each playing season would be the obvious successor for the former CITY BOYS set up.

Sponsor of the scheme is Mr David K Laird, County Youth Organiser and his plan is designed to fill the gap between school leaving age and 18. Manager, Bobby Brown of St. Johnstone is one of those who feel there is a need for such a league.

It will be affiliated to the Scottish Amateur FA thus paving the way for talented youngsters becoming eligible for Youth Internationals.

Mr Laird who is a fully qualified senior coach of the SFA has been in touch with quite a number of clubs about his proposal, but there may be several which have been omitted and they too are given a cordial invitation to be represented at this month's inaugural meeting. It is timed to start at 7.00 p.m.

It was an unanimous decision by the club that we should have a youth policy and that Letham should enter a team. Mr Alastair J McAdam, who was a work colleague and good friend of Ken Drummond at Scottish Gas, was asked to take over the running of this new team. Ally, who had no previous playing experience, was however a brilliant organiser and motivator. His enthusiasm and desire to win ensured that this first expansion of the club would be a success. Trials were held and of course the team colours were Tangerine and white. The team used the new!! clubrooms in Victoria Street.

Saturday 28th September 1963

Following meeting the under noted officials were elected Chairman - Mr R Yacomeni (Moncrieffe Boys Club), Vice Chairman - Mr D Stewart (Goodlyburn YC), Secretary & Treasurer - Mr D K Laird.

Referee Fees were set at 5/- (25 pence) plus expenses.

League Cup - Perth Harp

Runners Up - Stanley YC

Knock out Cup - Kinnoull City Boys

Runners Up - LETHAM

Ally McAdam did a great job in the first year. Not only did Dennis Crichton move on to the Juvenile side early on in the season but also because of the rules we were able to blood promising under 18's in the Juvenile team for league games. It was no mean achievement reaching the final of the Knock Out Cup (Norie Millar) and just losing to Kinnoull who were run by the person with whom we did not have good relations, the awful Willie Soutar.
