Letham City Boys - Season 1968/1969

Manager: Mr A J McAdam

Secretary: Mr D Lindsay

Committee: ??

Ally McAdam was again appointed President of the City Boys FA . He also was instrumental in starting to sow the seeds on changing the association from amateur status to Secondary Juveniles. This was important to stop other clubs especially juvenile clubs from pinching our young talent . David Lindsay was now alongside Ally having spent time setting up a successful Minor League set up. Ally was instrumental of enticing young David Lindsay away from the Boys Club to assist him. It was an inspired choice and his hard work ensured the club policy off finding and improving our youngsters to the benefit of all was certainly in evidence.

Letham United 1 - Letham 1
Game of the day was on the South Inch where the Letham teams fought a hard clean derby in which defences were on top. FC's dramatic equaliser in the closing seconds produced a fair result. FC was Letham as Ally McAdam wanted to keep our identity apart from other Letham teams so he all ways printed the team lines as Letham FC.

Letham City Boys V Fairmuir ( ??? - Away )
Team: Corcoran, Rattray, Rintoul, McLaggan, Fenton, Smeaton, Taylor, Low, Melley, G White, S White, Gardiner, Campbell.

Fairmuir 1 - Letham 9
The score line tells the story. From the time Letham opened the scoring after twenty minutes it was all one-way traffic.

Saturday 5th April 1969

Letham City Boys V Tay Thistle ( League - Home )
With the top of the table wide open an exciting game is expected on the South Inch where Letham meet league leaders Tay Thistle.
Team: Corcoran, Todd, Fenton, Rattray, Rintoul, McLaggan, Smeaton, Cowe,Low, Melley, G White, S White, Campbell, Gardiner.

Letham 4 - Tay Thistle 0
Tay Thistle again failed to field a full strength team and although they tried hard that was not enough against a side of Letham's calibre who finished strongly to secure both points. Thistle will have to play eleven men in the remaining games if they hope to retain the league title.

Letham City Boys V PCBC ( League - Home )
The stage is set for an exciting climax to the league this week. On the South Inch tonight Letham meets the Boys Club in a match in which both teams have everything at stake. Letham must win to give them a chance of a play off. The Boys Club must win or draw to give them a chance. By winning their clash with Bankfoot tomorrow however Tay Thistle would ensure themselves of the title regardless.

Letham 4 - PCBC 3
Letham's fine win over the Boys Club gave them second place to Tay Thistle in the league.

Saturday 19th April 1969

Goodlyburn YC 1 - Letham 1 ( Match abandoned )
In the game at Goodlyburn the match was abandoned in extra time because of bad light, both sides missed chances to win the game.

Saturday 26th April 1969

Letham City Boys V Goodlyburn YC ( Replay - Semi-Final Bob Croll Cup - Away )

Goodlyburn YC 0 - Letham 4
Letham go forward to two finals as their result of their wins last Wednesday and Saturday. Both games supplied good football with Letham winning comfortably only after they got their nose in front.

Monday 28th April 1969

Letham City Boys V Scone Thistle ( Final - Bob Croll Cup)

Letham 4 - Scone Thistle 0
In the first of their finals, the Letham side proved to be the finer footballing side and thoroughly deserved their four goals win. An excellent half-back line was in complete command of the midfield, their job made easier by the reluctance of the Scone forwards to come back and help their mates. But for some stout defending in which the Scone centre-half played magnificently, the score line might have been higher.

Wednesday 30th April 1969

Letham City Boys V Bankfoot ( Final - Norie Miller Cup )

Letham 4 - Bankfoot 0
In the Norie Miller Cup Final, Letham again played the better football. Some fine forward play in which the inside left was outstanding, saw them win their second trophy of the week.

Wednesday 4th June 1969 - AGM

Chairman: Mr A McAdam - Letham (This was Ally's fifth year in the chair)

Vice Chairman: P Holland - Scone Thistle

Interim Secretary: G Bruce - St James

Interim Treasurer: Mr R Yacomini

Auditors: Mr W Souter and Mr J Cameron

Finance Sub-committee: Mr P Holland, A Dow, J Pearson (The Association Secretary/Treasurer).

The resignation of Secretary/Treasurer Mr R Anderson was reluctantly accepted.

A motion forwarded by Mr G Bruce (St James) that the Association apply for membership to the Scottish secondary juveniles FA was carried by 8 votes to 1. As outlined at the start of the season Ally McAdam won the day re changes in the Association. The club was delighted because this decision meant that we could hold on to our very promising youngsters and the natural progression was up to our Juvenile team./

Applications from Roselea and Tayside were accepted. Mr W Souter of Kinnoull Juniors presented the League Championship trophy to Mr P McLaren of Tay Thistle and the Runner Up Shield to Mr D Lindsay of Letham.

So ended another very successful season. What is even more commendable is that this was done not only with a new and young team but they only used 16 players all season of which 14 were listed on a regular basis. If only the team had enjoyed a better start to the season there is no doubt the League Championship would have been won as well.
